Contributing to the successful implementation of the reconstruction project of the A5 Kaunas – Marijampolė – Suwalki highway of state importance, the National Land Service (NLS) is completing the procedures of land acquisition for the public needs.

According to the acts for land acquisition for public needs approved on 20 November 2020, the projects of special state importance (for the reconstruction of the section of the main road A5 Kaunas – Marijampolė – Suwalki from 56.83 to 97.06 km) in the territories of Marijampolė and Kalvarija municipalities have already been restructured by dividing more than 600 private and state land plots.

The reconstructed section of Via Baltica from Marijampolė to the Polish border will meet international infrastructure safety and traffic management standards. Currently, it is one of the most intensive traffic sections in Lithuania, where the average annual traffic intensity reaches up to 10 thousand cars per day, and half of that traffic is freight transport. After the reconstruction of the section, there should be no collisions of oncoming traffic, intersections, intersections, and connecting roads of different levels will be installed.

Since December 23, 2020 Director of the National Land Service adopted more than 800 acts on land acquisition for public needs in the territories of Marijampolė and Kalvarija municipalities.

According to the project solutions of land acquisition for public needs in Marijampolė municipality, 352 (182.2882 ha) private land plots, 50 (90.4123 ha) state land plots, and 9.8568 ha free state land plots were taken for public needs.

According to the project solutions of land acquisition for public needs in Kalvarija municipality, 276 (196.3163 ha area) private land plots, 35 (99.4003 ha area) state land plots, and 19.2074 ha free state land plots were taken for public needs.

A total of 713 private and state land plots with an area of 568.4 ha and vacant state land with an area of 29.0642 ha were acquired.

According to the solutions of the approved projects, 24 land plots for other purposes (i.e. use - transport and engineering network corridor territories) for the construction of the main road will be formed.
