NLS SUCCESSFULLY EXPANDS INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
On November 11, 2021 at the initiative of the National Land Service (NLS) under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania, a remote meeting took place uniting the directors and specialists of the land authorities and specialists of the three Baltic States.
In the first session of the webinar, the three leaders made general presentations. Laimonas Čiakas, Director of the NLS, presented an overview of the activities of the institution under his leadership. Tambet Tiits, the Director General of the Estonian Land Board (ELB) made an extensive presentation as well. Vita Narnicka, Director General of the State Land Service of Latvia LLS) also spoke about major activities and achievements of the institution.
During the second session of the meeting, specific professional topics relevant to all the three Baltic states were also discussed: issues of rational land management and administration, state control of land use, geodesy, real estate cadaster, mapping works. Special attention was paid to discussing the work assigned to land authorities in the implementation of the largest infrastructure project in the Baltic region, Rail Baltica. Rail Baltica rail is an integral part of the European Union's international transport corridor "North Sea–Baltic Sea", which will connect Warsaw, Vilnius, Kaunas, Panevėžys, Riga, and Tallinn.
"I am very pleased that we have taken the initiative to establish closer cooperation with our Latvian and Estonian colleagues. We have had similar historical experiences, similar work, problems and have faced some important challenges. We have agreed to expand our cooperation and organize such meetings more often, because close and friendly cooperation, sharing of experience and good practices is undoubtedly of great importance to our institutions and our countries," says Laimonas Čiakas, Director of the NLS.
